Demountable systems are built from factory-finished panels, often faced with vinyl, laminate, painted steel or plasterboard, set into aluminium tracks at the floor and ceiling. Because the panels arrive finished, there is little cutting, no wet plastering and minimal decoration, so installation is quicker and cleaner than traditional stud walls. Solid and glazed modules can be mixed in the same run, and doors, vision panels and services are designed into the system.
The main benefit is flexibility. When the team grows, a department moves or the lease ends, the partitions can be taken down and reused rather than demolished and sent to waste, which can cut both the cost of future changes and dilapidations liability. They suit offices where the landlord will want the floor returned to open plan, and businesses that reorganise often. The trade-off is that the upfront cost is usually a little more than plasterboard, and reuse depends on the new layout using similar heights and module sizes.

How much does it cost?
As a guide, solid demountable partitions typically cost around £140 to £260 per linear metre, with glazed modules priced closer to glazed partition systems. Taking down and refitting existing demountable partitions usually costs much less than new. See our full cost guide.
